ChoraChori is supporting a group of vulnerable girls from Tipling, Dhading District. This beautiful area, which is quite close to the Tibet border, was devastated by the 2015 earthquakes. This meant that girls who had been successful in the demanding School Leaver’s Certificate (Grade 10) examinations had no options for further academic progression. So, at the request of their teachers, in June 2016 we took nine girls into our refuge to allow them to continue their education at Kitini School. This was so successful that in June 2017 we admitted a further eight girls. The girls attend college in the mornings and in the afternoons we add to their prospects by teaching them craft skills (working in felt, screen printing and tailoring). Also, their carrier bags made from recycled rice and lentil sacks have sold well in UK, Holland and Germany. This programme will now continue indefinitely as we admit more girls in June 2018 while moving on Grade 12 graduates into higher education or employment.
